Apple Business Manager and School Manager Terms Update – October 25, 2021

Standard

Yesterday, Apple issued updated terms to both Apple Business Manager and Apple School Manager.

Not much has changed here from my prior posts on these and the on the mechanisms at play here and the impact.

The impact of not agreeing these terms are:

In Apple School Manager, Apple Business Manager, and the Device Enrollment Program, you can’t assign new devices to your MDM server, even if you have selected the option to automatically assign new purchases to a specific MDM server.

So, get and AxM admin reading and approving!

And, if you’re new to these changes or want a recap please see this post.

Apple School Manager Terms Update – December 3, 2020

Standard

Looks like my last post was a little premature, as overnight we received emails like the above for Apple School Manager.

Like the Apple Business Manager email received beforehand, this email forewarns of a change to the Apple School Manager terms on December 3, 2020.

This time, however, the email was from a more expected address (no-reply@email.apple.com), and the email contained no link to the terms for review beforehand.

Digging around though, the PDF may possibly be found here.

Anyway, if you are an Administrator of an Apple School Manager instance mark down a little task on December 3, 2020 to approve these new terms.

If you don’t agree to the terms in a timely manner, you’re likely to see issues with ADE/DEP as detailed previously.

Apple Business Manager Terms Update – December 3, 2020

Standard

If you have an account which is an Administrator of an Apple Business Manager instance, you might receive or soon receive an email like the above.

This email does seem legit, (despite coming from “noreply@me.com” where previous came from “no-reply@apple.com”), and I expect the process if not agreed to be the same as six months ago.

One nice change is that this time the email contains this link, which allows you to get the new terms in a PDF for review ahead of time.

So, pass this along to your legal teams as needed and mark down a little task on December 3, 2020 to approve these new terms.

Apple Business Manager and School Manager Terms Updates

Standard

Apple has issued updated terms to both Apple Business Manager and School Manager.

Not much has changed here from my prior post on these and the linked post before that on the mechanisms at play here and the impact (though there are no outstanding issues this time around).

The impact of not agreeing these terms are:

In Apple School Manager, Apple Business Manager, and the Device Enrollment Program, you can’t assign new devices to your MDM server, even if you have selected the option to automatically assign new purchases to a specific MDM server.

However, Jamf Pro has a new alert is shown if you have an Apple School Manager integration with with Jamf Pro for Classroom data, and as such is worth noting when these new terms are released for Apple School Manager:

Lastly, it appears that accepting the new terms seems to take upto an hour to now sync through, instead of the near immediate change it has been prior.

Apple Business Manager Terms Update

Standard

As forewarned in the above email sent to Apple Business Manager administrator accounts on June 2nd, Apple has started to roll out the updated the Terms for Apple Business Manager.

An Administrator account will be prompted to agree these updated Terms when next logging into Apple Business Manager, & until then your MDM will not sync any devices purchased after the Terms were updated.

If you have Jamf Pro, you’ll need to look for the below in you logs this time:

[ntInstanceSyncCommService] - DeviceEnrollmentProgramException[responseCode=403, responseBody='T_C_NOT_SIGNED', message='An error occurred during oauth token refresh']

The above log message has also been added to dataJAR’s JAMFSoftwareServer.log Messages repo, & we’re scraping Jamf Pro logs to alert customers.

But you should also receive a notification too:

For more details on these Terms updates & your MDM, please see my previous post on this.

More DEP Sync Errors

Standard

A week after the recent updated Terms & Conditions, we saw DEP sync errors reappear in our datajar.mobi deployments.

Below is some detail on what has caused these new sync errors & how to resolve.
