Because 40

Standard

A couple of weeks ago, was the 40th “birthday” of the Apple Macintosh. Well, today it’s my turn!

Entering my 40th year brings some a couple of milestones.

First up, I started supporting Apple devices when 18/19.. which means that I’ve now supported Apple devices for over half my life!

From working with Apple devices, I’ve been fortunate to visit many places and have met many great people. From those, there is a decent number of which I’ve know for the majority of my time supporting Apple devices and have become firm friends.

And even 20+ years on i’m still enjoying digging into issues and figuring things out, and had one such issue as recent as last week (I intend to blog about it shortly). Being so far into a career and still enjoying it is something to be thankful for.

The other milestone will be on: October 14th 2024. This will be 20 years to the day of my motorbike accident. An accident which almost meant I’d not have made it to 40 and one that has left me disabled since. This isn’t mentioned as a sober thing, (you have to have the bad to appreciate the good), just more that it’s another transformative event with an anniversary this year and that from October 14th 2024 I’ll have been disabled for over half my life.

Anyways, as you’re reading this you’re part of the reason I do what I do. So, thank you and hope to see you soon 🙂

Because Jamf Nation

Standard

Jamf Nation is a community that is very dear to my heart, & over the past decade it’s grown from a small mailing list to over 100k accounts registered on Jamf Nation.

During JNUC2019’s day one keynote, 10 years of Jamf Nation was celebrated & Jamf Nations Hall Of Fame was announced.

I was inducted into the Hall Of Fame, alongside some fellow admins. Below is some history on why Jamf Nation holds a special place for me.

So 2015 has been one hell of a year for me, a rollercoaster for sure.

Throughout, the Apple Admin community has been there. Either helping to make light of the various incidents that have befallen me during the year, some words of encouragement & also somethings to look forward too.

As such, it seemed a pertinent time to collate some various thoughts on why I blog, help out on JAMFNation, give talks & setup London Apple Admins.

A few weeks ago I posted “Because MacMule,” but this is only part of the story. Not only have the Mac Admin community greatly assisted me over the years, but that post did a disservice to the company I work for as i neglected to mention them.

That company is Pentland Brands & you’ve probably never heard of us. But please take a moment to look at our recently re-launched site to get a real flavour of the company & it’s values.

A little over a month ago I attended  the Jamf Nation User Conference 2013 (READ: JNUC) in Minneapolis, this was the 1st multi-day conference I’ve attended & the 1st time i’ve flown solo. This also led to somewhat of a watershed moment for me.
